[미국주식] 마이크로소프트 이사회에서 물러나는 빌게이츠(MSFT, Microsoft)

미국증시가 오르락내리락하는 와중에 제가 좋아하는 기업인 마이크로소프트와 관련된 이슈가 있어서 기사를 하나 가지고왔습니다.

애플에 스티브잡스가 있다면 마이크로소프트엔 빌게이츠가 있죠. 정말 마이크로소프트의 상징과도 같은 빌게이츠인데요.

금요일 마이크로소프트의 설립자인 빌게이츠가 마이크로소프트와 버크셔 헤서웨이의 이사회를 그만둔다고 발표했습니다.

현재 마이크로소프트의 CEO 사티아 나델라(Satya Nadella) 체제에서 본인의 역활이 크게 요구되지 않는다고 판단하여 내린 결론이라고 하는데요.

사실 빌게이츠는 마이크로소프트에 대한 일 외에 Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation을 통해 지구적으로 시급한 문제인 보건의료 확대와 세계빈곤 퇴치에 대해서 더 고민하고 해결하려고 노력하고 있죠. 정말 존경스럽습니다. 

이사회를 그만두게 되면서 Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation에 더 많은 시간을 투자할 것으로 예상되는데요. 

빌게이츠가 이사회를 그만두고 자선사업에 더 힘쓰는 만큼 이를 통해 모두가 살기 좋은 지구가 되었으면 하는 바람입니다 :)

Microsoft announced on Friday that Bill Gates is leaving the board, effective Friday. Gates is also stepping down from his position on the board of Berkshire Hathaway.

마이크로소프트는 빌게이츠가 이사회를 떠날 것이라고 금요일에 발표했습니다. 또한 빌게이츠는 버크셔 헤서웨이의 이사진 자리도 그만 둘 것입니다. 

“I have made the decision to step down from both of the public boards on which I serve – Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway – to dedicate more time to philanthropic priorities including global health and development, education, and my increasing engagement in tackling climate change,” Gates said on LinkedIn. “The leadership at the Berkshire companies and Microsoft has never been stronger, so the time is right to take this step.”

Gates co-founded Microsoft in 1975 with Paul Allen, who died in 2018. Gates was CEO until 2000 when Steve Ballmer took over the role. Microsoft’s current CEO, Satya Nadella, took over in 2014. Gates was director of the board at Microsoft until 2014 but began dedicating more of his time to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2008.

빌게이츠는 폴 엘런과 함께 1972년 마이크로소프트를 공동설립했습니다. 빌게이츠는 2000년 스티브발머가 CEO로 취임되기 전까지 마이크로소프트의 CEO였습니다. 현재 마이크로소프트의 CEO 인 Satya Nadella는 2014년에 취임했습니다. 빌게이츠는 2014년까지 Microsoft의 이사회 이사 였지만 2008 년 Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation에 더 많은 시간을 투자하기 시작했습니다.

Gates is among Microsoft’s top shareholders. He owns 1.36% of shares, according to FactSet. The company went public in 1986 and is now one of the most highly valued companies in the world with a market cap of $1.21 trillion.
